Once again I've failed miserably to post on a regular basis, but I'll try again. It may get me out taking photos again if nothing else!

I really like billboards after numerous posters/flyers have been applied and removed, got torn, weather damaged etc. I find this one very intriguing although I never did find out who or what the giant midget was.

On the Saturday we were in New York we spent quite a bit of the day indoors due to the rain, and one of the places we went to was Macy's, the location of the film 'Miracle on 34th Street'. Quite apt that the window displays in the run up to Christmas are of scenes from the story.

By the time we unpacked in the hotel and went for a walk it was early evening. We walked to Times Square primarily to try and find where we were to meet our tour bus the following morning. Heading back we came to the Rockefeller centre and so headed up to 'the top of the rock'. What a great view it was, looking out around the city at night. This as I'm sure you've guessed is a view of the Empire State building.

well, doesn't time pass quickly when you get out of the swing of things. New year comes and goes, resolutions come and go also. Anyway I'm going to attempt to try and restart posting images on a more regular basis, as hopefully it might get me out taking shots again (I've not taken very many over the last year).

In November I had a few days in New York as my wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary, so I might as well do a series of shots from there first. This one was taken in Central Park by the turtle pond.

Here's the second abstract image from the Tom Waits gig. This one was taken during a song called 9th and Hennepin, and the lighting on stage was mainly from a light bulb suspended near Tom's head. I can't quite work out what the similar light area lower down is from though.

To gain access to the theatre to see Tom Waits you needed to produce photo id and the original credit card used to buy the tickets, this was an attempt to stop the selling on of tickets for the show on e-bay etc. It worked very well as far as I could see. The security staff were very prominant in their attempts at stopping anyone trying to take images during the show.

As there was no way I could have smuggled my SLR into the show I had to resort to my wifes digi camera, and knowing full well in advance it wasn't made for the job and that everything was going to be blurred, I thought I'd have a go anyway. So this image and the next one are two of the resultant images I was quite happy with in the end.

In retrospect, I'm pleased my shots came out blurred, as it fits in better with the Tom Waits philosophy regarding his music, live performance and life in general. As an example the three different t-shirt designs available for purchase were of oil patterns left by leaking cars photographed by Tom Waits. There's no glaring message saying this is a Tom Waits T-shirt, only a very small description on the back barely visible to the naked eye.

I know I said that I was going to publish images more regularly but since then I've had a week in spain at La Pinada and after returning for a day travelled up for an overnight stay in Edinburgh to see Tom Waits on the second of his dates at the Edinburgh Playhouse.

To say I was eagerly anticipating this show is a HUGE understatement as I've been waiting to see him for 25 years, and I certainly wasn't disappointed. Then again, there was never a chance I would have been disappointed. This shot was taken as we surveyed the area, checking out the location of the theatre.

During our trip to Cyprus we had a drive to Nicosia. The temperatures in Cyprus we mostly around 40 degrees C, but in land this day the temperature was 47 degrees C. I didn't mind as I was enjoying myself taking photos, but the wife and kids weren't quite so happy!

We were staying close to Ayia Napa on holiday so we had a walk around there. It has certainly changed since 1982 when I last went, then there was a monastry and not much else. Now it's built up and looks exactly like every other tourist holiday resort.

We had stopped at a shop to get a drink in the village of Akrotiri. I was waiting in the car and this blue VW Beetle pulled up near me. I loved the way the white plastic chairs were reflected in the side panel, and took a couple of shots, of which this is one.

As I mentioned we went on a boat trip up the coast of Cyprus. Just prior to disembarking at the end of the trip, the captain of the ship was doing the rounds, having his photograph taken with the passengers. He was an inteesting fellow to say the least!

One of the things we did while in Cyprus was to take a cruise for the day, setting off from the harbour at Ayias Trias, near Paralimni. When we returned after soaking up the sun and swimming in the beautiful warm sea, I took this shot of a boat in the harbour. It was the reflected light and beautiful colour of the water that caught my eye.

We had a drive to Redcar a couple of months ago. The weather was lovely in Guisborough, but as we went down the hill the fog had rolled in. We had a walk from Guisborough across to Roseberry Topping. After the final steep ascent it was a bit of a blessing to reach the top for a bit of a breather. These two lads had been there awhile, and were just starting to get to their feet after lying down and peering over the edge. It might not look like it, but it is a sheer drop just after the rocks they are resting on.

Last night was prom night for my daughter and the rest of year 11. This is a shot of all the female classmates that attended the prom and their form teacher. They all seemed to have a great evening, as they arrived in stretch limo's, stretch hummers, a horse drawn carriage, a fire engine, and in my daughters case, a vintage rolls-royce. There was nothing like this when we left school!

The first of two images about roof tops I took while having a walk around Guisborough. I love these old ramshackle tile roofs that are found amongst other things on barns. This one appears to have lost a few tiles already, and the tiles on the edge, remind me of those machines in games arcades in seaside resorts, where you drop your coin in and try to make it push the coins overhanging the edge, your way.

Sorry if it's getting boring seeing tractors, but I like them. This is a very similar shot to one about a week ago, but I think the balance of the image is better as it shows a complete tractor on the right to balance the tractors on the left. In fact I've just noticed the tractor in the distance is the one from a couple of days ago also.

Things are starting to shoot up in the garden now. It won't be too long before the bleeding heart is out in full bloom. This shot was taken last year, and I've tweaked it to give it a different feel.
