Bottle of notes

This piece of art, found near the new MIMA art gallery, is called the bottle of notes, and was commissioned by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen in 1988. It was finally installed September 14, 1993.
The dimensions for the bottle of notes is 30 x 16 x 10 ft, or for any of you modern guys 9.1 x 4.9 x 3.1 m

This is a neat shot of a striking piece of work and, at the time, a brave commissioning, I imagine. I have read that the outer words are from Captain Cook : "we had every advantage we could desire in observing the whole of the passage of the planet Venus over the Sun's disc" . . I think I can make out “ . . sage . . ”! Luv the lamp post leaning in sympathy.
The inner bottle painted blue includes a line from one of van Bruggen's own poems:
"I like to remember seagulls in full flight gliding over the ring of canals"
Sounds more like Eric Cantona to me.
As for the lamp post, perhaps it won't lean as much if I straighten up the image, judging by those buildings and the pathways. I was in a bit of a rush with this one!
