Remains of a sand sculpture

Prev | Home | Next

It was a beautiful hot sunny day when I went for a walk around Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria. I came across the remains of some sand sculptures on the beach, presumably created the day before.

Hot air balloon and fireworks

Prev | Home | Next

Another shot from the hot air balloon day at the Kirkleatham showground. This was the reason we went along, to see the fireworks.

I was hand holding the camera in the dark, and as you would expect I didn't get a 100 percent success rate. This one along with a few others came out ok though.

Wires

While walking under the pier at Saltburn, I noticed these wires between the legs of the pier. Coupled with the clouds in the distance I thought it might make an interesting abstract image.

Clouds over Saltburn beach

Prev | Home | Next

Another image from Saltburn. The thing that attracted me to this shot was the dramatic heavy clouds towering over the people having fun on the beach. Although the colour version isn't bad, I felt the black and white treatment makes it a better shot.

Storm clouds, Menorca

Prev | Home | Next

While on holiday in Cala n Forcat in Menorca, I noticed these storm clouds while we walked back to our apartment. I was looking for some nice white buildings to place against them, and luckily enough I came across these.

Soldier

Prev | Home | Next

I'm still having problems trying to upload the abstract fish image. Everytime I load it, it's being rotated through 90 degrees. Very frustrating.

So I've decided to go with another shot I really like from the filming of Atonement a couple of days ago.

Although you wouldn't guess it from the shots so far, I generally prefer black and white images to colour ones. I'll have to see what I can do in the near future to redress the balance slightly.

Clock

Prev | Home | Next

Rather than have another Atonement photo again I thought I would use this shot, taken on Sunday whilst down Redcar.

We had just been for something to eat when I spotted this clock on the High Street. I hadn't seen it before, and thought the mainly blue image would work quite well.

Actually this wasn't the image I was going to show, however, when I loaded up the original photo to the blog (abstract sculpture of fish) the image had been rotated through 90 degrees! Although it still looked ok, it wasn't how I envisaged the shot to be. So until I can get it loaded correctly I won't show it.

Pray

Prev | Home | Next

Yesterday was the second day of shooting of Atonement at Redcar. Once again I went after work, only to find there was no access to the beach at all.

I decided to try walking round to the Regent cinema side to see if I could find a decent view for taking some photos. I'm really glad I did, as in my opinion I got the best shots I've managed in the last few days.

Although I was shooting through a steel fence, most of them came out pretty good.

I've put the links to the Atonement photos on the right hand side of this blog, and will leave them there until I need the web space for something else.

This shot I got as I was walking around the side streets on the way towards the Regent. There was a gap in the fence, with a truck full of soldiers visible. There were also soldiers milling around, such as this guy.

Atonement, filming starts

Prev | Home | Next

Seeing as the filming of the scenes for Atonement has now started I may as well continue with images from it.

This was taken yesterday about 6:40pm, on the first day of filming. I went along straight from work, and the scene being filmed involved some soldiers playing football, while some refugees/evacuees walk across the beach. At the same time these soldiers were walking into the sea. I was there for about 75 minutes and they were in the sea for most of that time.

I suppose somebody had to get the short straw!

I went down to the atonement set again yesterday and it has changed dramatically with plenty of vehicles now in place. Shooting of the movie starts today for three days.

Some of the technical guys were doing a bit of testing yesterday as shown in this photo.

Atonement 2

Another image from the "Atonement" set down at Redcar. As I'm planning a couple more trips down there over the next few days, I'll probably be adding other images to the blog.

Atonement

Prev | Home | Next

Yesterday lunchtime I went to Redcar where a couple of scenes for the film 'Atonement' are due to be filmed next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

The seafront over the past few months has been turned into Dunkirk for a battle scene, and as you can see it's coming on pretty well. There is still lots of work being done and I'll hopefully get back down on Sunday as it should be pretty much completed by then. I may also go down on Monday as there should be the chance of some different shots as the 1000 extras drafted in for the film should be in place.

Almost all of the images so far in the blog have had very little processing done on them (just a little sharpening), but for this one I played with black and white, desaturated and toned versions of the above shot, and decided it worked best as above.

Watching the day go by

Prev | Home | Next

About a week ago, we went to Stoke-on-Trent for a couple of days. The main reason for the trip was to take the kids to Alton Towers.

This shot was taken a couple of minutes walk from where we stayed. It was a nice surprise as it appeared we were on the edge of a retail park, to find this canal tucked away.

Black and white seagulls

Prev | Home | Next

Another shot from the trip to Saltburn by the sea. I was walking along the pier when I noticed these seagulls circling around low to the beach. I was attracted by the light coloured seagulls casting the dark shadows. I only managed to grab two shots before they flew away. This was the better of the two.

It was a shame they didn't stay around a bit longer to allow me a better composition.

Breda, Netherlands

Prev | Home | Next

The day following the UEFA cup final, played at Eindhoven (and ending in a devastating 0-4 defeat to Seville), we travelled on the train to Breda, as we had a day free before we had to catch the overnight ferry back to England.

While wandering around I came across this scene. I can't quite recall exactly where in Breda it was. No matter, it was a glorious day, as we wandered around, or sat having a drink, watching the numerous cyclists go by.

Pre season training

Today was the second pre season training session for my sons football team. As I'm just getting used to my new camera and lens, I was also using it as a training session!

Roll on the new season, four weeks to go.

Who are you looking at?

Prev | Home | Next

I was out for a walk with my wife when I saw these cows in a field. It's just a pity the top of the fence wasn't six inches lower( or the cow was three feet to the left), however I do like the way the two distant cows balance the photo.

Hot air balloons

Prev | Home | Next

Here we go with the first image in my photoblog.

This shot was taken at a hot air balloon exhibition at Kirkleatham show ground, near Redcar. The balloons were manoeuvring into place, ready for the start of a firework display behind them.

The image was taken two or three weeks ago, if I remember correctly.
