Tackle

As well as doing this blog, I do a website for my sons football team. As well as doing match reports I take a few shots each game to incorporate into the report. This shot was from last Sunday, as today's game was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, which happens a lot at this time of year. Oh and they lost this game 4-1.

Path

Another shot of the brilliant looking path outside of mima in Middlesbrough. Although, if it gets very wet and muddy you probably won't be walking in a straight line like this guy is.

Steam

With the sun shining I liked the way this plume of steam spread across the image, over the top of the blast furnace.

Patience

It was a bit on the cold side while we were down the South Gare to say the least. My wife feels the cold a lot more than I do, and we were just about to go back to the car when I decided to take 'just a few more shots'. So my wife sat herself down and waited again. As I walked back towards her, I really liked the cast shadow in contrast to the coat colour.

Sunlight on industry
Prev | Home | Next
Driving away from the Gare just as we were approaching Corus I stopped the car as the late sunlight was shining over this field and these buildings. The blast furnace is to the left of these buildings. Although it looks like a normal field I've since been informed it's actually a marsh, so it's a good job I didn't walk any closer.

Paddy's hole

This inlet is known as Paddy's hole (we are still down the Gare). It's a nice sheltered spot. While the surfer's were being battered by the sea a little bit further round, all was calm here.

Fishermens huts
Prev | Home | Next
There is something about these green fishermens huts at the South Gare. They are just begging to be photographed, especially with the Corus steelworks in the background. However I've found them to be rather elusive so far. On saying that I quite like this shot. I like the way the solitary hut on the left seems to be lining up the other huts, rather like a sargeant major parading his soldiers.

Avdeevka
Prev | Home | Next
Teesport being a very busy port means there's quite a lot of ship movement past the South Gare. Within a minute of getting out of the car the ship 'Avdeevka' was just passing on its way to Teesport.

Walking the dog
Prev | Home | Next
The great thing about the South Gare for me is that looking one way you see the sea and boats and sand. Turn around 180 degrees and you see the industry of Teesport and the Corus Steel works. I saw this couple walking their dog set against this back drop, and thought it would make a pretty good image.

Glove
Prev | Home | Next
This afternoon I went with my wife Linda down to the South Gare which is at the mouth of the River Tees. So the next collection of images, will include boats and surfers and sea and stuff, but for now here's a picture of a glove I spotted on the floor! Oh, and I've only just made it for today as I had a problem uploading todays image. I realised I had run out of space where I was hosting the images so I think I need to look around for somewhere else to host the site, probably means I'm going to have to pay!

From the balcony at the top of mima, you have a great view of this fabulous path thats been put down linking mima with the fountains in the previous shots.

Enjoying the fountain
Prev | Home | Next
Between mima and the Mall (formerly known as the Cleveland Centre) are some fountains. I spotted this boy who kept running close to one of the fountains and almost touching it. Although it doesn't look like it, this is a straight shot without any manipulation at all. My memory says I had a clear view of him in front of the fountain, but that fountain to the right was obviously dropping more water in between us than I imagined.

There is a pond to the side of mima and I could see these reeds being backlit, well I'm assuming they are some type of reed. Anyway, I liked the backlighting on them.

roundabout sculpture
Prev | Home | Next
went down to Middlesbrough this afternoon to have a look at Mima. But on the way as I wasn't driving I thought I'd have a go at taking some shots from the car while we were travelling along. With Corus (previously British Steel) on the doorstep, this sculpture represents the molten metal being poured. It's very impressive at night as it's lit up, and as you travel around the roundabout it looks as if the metal is really being poured.

Making a fuss

This is an older image again, taken a number of years back in Chester, as we were heading to North Wales. This guy had had a bit to drink and was making quite a stir. It was an entertaining few minutes though.

Moon

This is a similar image to one from a few days ago. This one shows just the very top of the Riverside stadium and a larger moon. I couldn't decide which of the two I preferred, so I thought I'd include them both on the blog.

Around Exchange Square in Middlesbrough you can find quite a number of these. I think (although I didn't check) that they are rubbish bins. I could have had a look in to check I suppose, but may have been snapped myself and been put forward as one of those, tramp rummaging through a bin, type shots!
