The path to mima

Prev | Home | Next

As the new mima art gallery has just opened I thought I better show what it looks like. So, here it is. I'm looking forward to having a look inside, hopefully this weekend.

Bridge and tower

Prev | Home | Next

Another shot showing the Transporter bridge. The tower in front of it is interesting as one of the faces doesn't contain a clock face. According to the programme 'Coast' when it was built the employers funding it on that side of the river didn't want the workers clock watching, so insisted there wasnt a clock on the face towards them. I'll get around to a shot showing this over the next few days hopefully.

Mima

Prev | Home | Next

Last night was the official opening of the new Mima gallery in Middlesbrough, the one where the VIP's turn up. There is to be a firework display tonight and then the gallery is open to the public for a few hours. Normal open starts on Tuesday, so it looks like I'm not going to get there until next weekend. I'm really looking forward to that.

Oh and the shot, it's a similar one to an earlier shot, however this one is in landscape format whereas the previous one was in portrait. This is the windows of the Mima gallery, also showing a reflection of the bottle of notes.

Pipe

Prev | Home | Next

Just as you get out of the underpass in yesterdays shot, you see this pipe. As you'll notice it's the same colour scheme. Just you wait until the rest of the development, hotels buildings etc are built in the same colour scheme! Anyway, to the right of the shot in the distance is the Riverside stadium.

Underpass

Prev | Home | Next

This is one of the underpasses from Middlesbrough centre going towards the Riverside stadium. The area (Middlehaven) has been waiting for redevelopment for at least 10 years, but the go-ahead has now been given, and so the paint pots have come out!

Boro skips

Prev | Home | Next

I thought I'd have a walk around by the Riverside stadium where Middlesbrough FC play, and also around by the Transporter bridge. You know the one, the bridge that was supposedly dismantled and moved to America in 'auf wiedersehen, pet'

This was taken in Guisborough. I was interested by the shadow cast from a street lamp onto this wall.

Car and trailer

Two guys were unloading a quad from this trailer. They then both got on a drove off through a field, presumably to check fences or sheep or something.

While starting our walk around Tow Law I came across this view. I liked the way the white vehicle contrasted with the black smoke from the fire in the distance.

Apple fall

Prev | Home | Next

We came across what was, judging by the evidence on the floor, an apple tree. In fact there were two oe three of them together, in the middle of nowhere. This is presumably the normal situation for the fruit, as not too many people will walk past here on a regular basis to pick it.

Covered bales

Prev | Home | Next

Saw this stack of covered bales of hay and thought it might make a pretty decent image. When taking it I initially thought I'd be converting it to black and white as the black plastic looked like it would make a really nice contrast with the subdued surroundings. In the end, I much preferred this version with the muted colours

A little drop of rain

Prev | Home | Next

I noticed yesterday that it's lightening up on a evening now. 2-3 hours more light and I may be able to get out and take some shots during the week! Anyway, with it getting lighter, it won't be long before the trees are regrowing all the leaves, and these sparse shots are no more. Well for another 8-9 months anyway.

Jaffa

Prev | Home | Next

The friends we stay with in Tow Law have a couple of dogs. I think this was taken just before we went out for a walk. Looking at it, it must have been, otherwise Jaffa would have a look of exhaustion rather than this rather sad wistful look.

Zoom

Prev | Home | Next

Took this at the same time as yesterdays shot. Because of the brightly coloured brown bush, I thought I'd try something a little different, and so zoomed the lens during the exposure. Apart from a little sharpening, this is how it came straight from the camera. I like the light area behind the bush, and thought it worked pretty well in a surreal kind of way. Don't think I'll be doing too many of these though.

Although there is some doubt whether the shot a few days ago was of leaves or seed pods (you may well be right AG) I'm pretty sure these are leaves!
